Out of Bounds

Also known as: OOB, Last touch

The lines are out, and so is the last player who touched it.

The rule

The ball is out when it touches the floor, an object or a person on or outside the boundary lines. The lines themselves are out. The team that touched the ball last before it went out loses it. A player standing on the line with the ball is out too.

The penalty

The other team gets the ball for a throw-in from where it went out (a check-ball in 3x3).

Around the leagues

  • Throw-in: NBA, WNBA, FIBA, NCAA M, NCAA W
  • Throw-in: Wheelchair. The wheelchair counts as part of the player: a wheel on the line is out.
  • Check-ball: 3x3. Play restarts at the top of the arc: a defender hands the ball to an attacker, who must be behind the arc.
