Free Throws
Also known as: Foul shots, Charity stripe
The shooter’s time limit, and who may move when.
The rule
A free throw is an unguarded shot from behind the free-throw line, worth 1 point. The shooter must not touch the line until the ball hits the rim, and has to shoot within a time limit. Players lined up along the lane may not enter it until the ball leaves the shooter’s hands.
The penalty
A violation by the shooter cancels the shot. A violation by the defense gives the shooter another try if the shot missed.
